On-Course Medical Support

On-Course Medical Support

  • Medical Bike Teams
  • Medical Vans
  • Aid stations
    • 5 on the Half Marathon Course
    • 12 on the Full Marathon Course

The On-Course medical volunteers will evaluate medical problems the runner may encounter.  An appropriate assessment includes vital signs and mental status.

The volunteer will call into Medical Communications via 2-Way radio or cell phone.  Do not call 911.  This keeps the medical care centralized and therefore better coordinated.

A decision will be made whether to:

  • Continue runner
  • Withdrawal and transfer to the Finish Line Medical Tent
  • Transfer to hospital via ambulance

A runner can continue if:

  • Normal mental status (Oriented to person, place, & time)
  • Straight line progress toward finish
  • Good competitive posture
  • Clinically fit appearance
